Northeast Phila. Church Damaged By Strong Winds Last February Gets New Steeple

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Construction crews arrived at Burlholme Baptist Church Thursday to put the final touches on the building that was damaged nearly a year ago.

Pastor Charles App Jr. of Burlholme Baptist Church tells KYW Newsradio he was thrilled to finally see the new steeple added to the building.

"Why? Because it collapsed last February 15th on a Sunday. The temperature was below zero and the winds were 60 mph. The lord let it collapse and he let it fall between two masonry buildings."

Luckily no one was hurt and insurance covered the cost.

"The lord sent us top quality contractors."

Pastor App says the new steeple is an exact replica of the one that fell.

"To the last minute detail."

The pastor described his mood as he watched workers get lifted up on the crane to top the steeple off with a cross.

"Jubilant! Rejoicing! It's like a miracle that the lord made this happen."
