AG Kane A Likely No-Show At Senate Hearing On Her Future

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa., (CBS) -- The spokesman for Kathleen Kane says the embattled attorney general is not expected to testify at a Senate hearing next week that could set the stage for a vote on whether to remove her from office.

A Senate committee has been examining whether Kathleen Kane can function as attorney general with a suspended law license. Kane has a chance to make a case for herself in advance of a possible Senate vote to remove her. Her spokesman Chuck Ardo says Kane's lawyers have advised her it would be "imprudent" for her to appear. But Ardo says someone could represent her at the hearing.

(Ardo:) "She is preparing a response to the committee… and is considering various options..."
(Romeo:) "And one of those might be having a surrogate present that to the committee in person?"
(Ardo:) "I think that is among her options, certainly."

Ardo says Kane continues to maintain that there are no grounds to remove her and that the Senate process is not legitimate. A spokeswoman for the Senate majority leader says the hearing is expected to proceed whether or not Kane or a representative appears.
