Local Fire Department Coordinating Effort To Help Residents In The South Recover After Deadly Storms

By Suzanne Monaghan

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa., (CBS) -- The Collegeville Fire Department is working to help residents of Texas and other southern state, who were impacted by deadly tornadoes and severe weather that hit over Christmas week.

The fire department is teaming up with the Salvation Army for a disaster relief drive on January 9th and 10th. Some of the things they're looking for are blankets and other household items, clothing and baby supplies including food and diapers.

Zenon Janicki is a firefighter who's helping to coordinate this effort.

"These poor people have nothing left. And this is our way as a community and as a fire department to give back," said Janicki.

Donations can be dropped at the firehouse at 29 East 5th Avenue from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday.
