PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- For getaway seekers with global or domestic ambitions, 2015 was a year of deep contrast.
Travelers at times may have felt like life was a bungee cord journey bouncing between incredible opportunities and second thought plunges. International travel hasn't been so affordable in decades. The Euro, pound and Loonie all took a deep drop. But, as travelers hit the skies for Europe and beyond, uncertainty and concern about terrorism and a refugee crisis put a damper on carefree global getaways.
Oil prices also took a nosedive. But domestic air travelers didn't see much of a break in ticket prices. On the ground we could drive further for a lot less, but highways became crowded and a year of bizarre weather, floods, fire and landslides blocked off many traditionally enticing destinations and skiers got a late start.
One bright spot was Canada where nothing dramatic happened, the American dollar bought 25 percent more and the weather remained cooperative from the Yukon to the Maritimes.
And of course, there's now a bit of Cuba in the mix.
