Dom Giordano: 'Concussion' Movie Will Not Cripple The NFL

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- I'm just back from seeing "Concussion", the film telling the story of a Pittsburgh pathologist who proved that a significant number of NFL players had contracted a devastating brain disease due to all the head injuries they suffered over their high school, college and pro careers.

The film debuted on Christmas Day and stars Philadelphia native Will Smith as Dr. Bennet Omalu. While the movie was well down, I don't see it as a game changer that will significantly cripple the NFL.

First, the game itself is thrilling for guys to play and the allure of the competition will still draw a tremendous number of players. In addition to this , the game creates sports heroes who make a lot of money.

As far as fans of football, the game has never been more popular. I think people can argue that players are well aware of the risk they take and if they play, the consequences are on them.

Roe saw the film with me and questioned why, after seeing it, I was rushing home to see the Eagles. My response was I thought the players were now informed fully of the risks and didn't feel that I was morally shaky by enjoying such a violent game.

I recommend the film because Will Smith is compelling and the football footage gives you an idea of how the game really is. It will force you to have a good conversation with yourself.
