Volunteers In Consohocken Collect Christmas Dinners For Needy Families

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Charity is the true spirit of Christmas, and a Consohocken man is doing his part by organizing a meal giveaway for families in need.

This time of year is especially taxing on food pantries, so Josh Leone and his team of volunteers pulled together more than 500 meals for the Consohocken Free Christmas Dinner. Leone started this because he wanted to be productive and give something back on his day off.

"If I could take one of these days off of the shoulders of the food cupboard, it really leaves that resource for January and February," Leone said.

Donations paid for many of the meals from 'Andy's Diner', complete with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce. But Leone says they will also take your leftovers.

"Next year, think about us," he said. "The best gift you can give to another family is for them to sit with theirs and eat a home cooked meal."
