Kwanzaa Celebration Kicks Off Saturday At African-American Museum Of Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The African-American Museum of Philadelphia will kick off its annual Kwanzaa celebration on Saturday.
The two-day extravaganza includes arts and crafts, candle lighting, drumming, African dancing and more.
"I'm hoping that people can come and enjoy themselves and learn the value of what Kwanzaa means," Safa Robinson, education coordinator at the museum, told KYW Newsradio.
She says they are celebrating the first two Kwanzaa principles- Umjoa, which means Unity, and Kujichagulia, which means self-determination- with a full list of activities.
Visitors also get to see AAMP's exhibits; Audacious Freedom, about African-Americans achieved freedom in the 18th century Philadelphia and Africans in India, about the Siddi People.
"They were Africans who were brought to India, some of them as soldiers," she said,
The Kwanzaa activities are free with museum admission.
