Delaware State Troopers Confronted By Man With Gun

MILFORD, Del. (CBS) --  An investigation is underway after Delaware State Police troopers were confronted by a man with a gun as they tried to execute an arrest warrant.

Authorities say it happened Sunday night in Milford when troopers arrived at a home with a warrant for 36-year-old Richard Wilson, who allegedly violated a Protection From Abuse order.

When they arrived, they say an unidentified African-American man refused to let troopers in the house.

He was later identified as 35-year-old Lionel Waters, who then opened the door as the troopers were leaving and told them he had a weapon.

Investigators say numerous requests were made for Waters to drop the gun, but he refused.

According to authorities, Waters was agitated and aggressive while troopers attempted to arrest him.

One used a department issued taser to try to subdue him, but it didn't work.

Several troopers were eventually able to secure Waters and take away his gun.

It was then, officials say, Waters lost consciousness and went into cardiac arrest.

CPR was administered by troopers on the scene until an ambulance arrived and transported him to the hospital.

He's currently listed in stable but critical condition.

The preliminary investigation found alcohol may have been a factor.

No troopers were injured.

Several hours later, Richard Wilson, the subject of the warrant, was taken into custody.

The Attorney General's office are reviewing the incident and charges are pending against Lionel Waters.
