With Peak Of Flu Season Approaching, Doctors Want Everyone To Get Flu Shot
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Health officials in Pennsylvania are warning of the upcoming flu season and that even with the warmer weather, it doesn't mean we are in the clear for flu season.
The peak is in the first few weeks of January.
Pennsylvania General Physician Dr. Rachel Levine says even if you've had a preventative flu shot, it doesn't mean you are entirely safe from getting sick.
"If you have had the flu shot, it is still possible to get the flu, but almost in all cases, it will be somewhat milder because you've had the shot."
Last year, the state recorded 55,000 cases of influenza. And even with the warmer weather, Dr. Levine says it doesn't mean you are in the clear.
"The seasonal flu comes irrespective of what the temperature is, so individuals shouldn't be complacent that they will not be susceptible to the flu. The flu is going to come anyway."
