One Teen Dead, Another Critically Wounded In West Philadelphia Shooting

By Tim Jimenez, Jan Carabeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One teen is dead and another was seriously wounded in shooting in West Philadelphia.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Creighton Street, near Wyaluising Avenue.

"We know that at least 17 shots were fired from two separate caliber, semi-automatic handguns," says Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Officers responded to numerous calls and arrived at the scene where they found 17-year-old boy in street, shot multiple times in the head and body.

"And do to the fact that he was in so close proximity to the ballistic evidence and due to the fact that he was shot numerous times, we believe he was the intended target," Small says.

The teen was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Small says a second victim, another 17-year-old boy, was shot once in the thigh, but was able to run from the scene in search of help.

"We followed a blood trail about two blocks," Small says.

Police say the teen was able to run inside one home and the people inside were complete strangers. He was taken to the hospital where he's listed in critical condition.

Residents and other witnesses in the neighborhood were talking to police.

There were no initial arrests or word of a motive.

Investigators were reviewing surveillance video in the area that captured the gunfire.
