Phila. Mayor-elect Has Questions About Proposed Temple University Football Stadium

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Mayor-elect Jim Kenney says he's not necessarily opposed to a football stadium at Temple University's North Philadelphia campus but, he wants a lot more information about it before he supports it.

Kenney says one of his big concerns about the stadium has less to do with Temple than it does with the Eagles.

"Part of what has driven Temple to want to build a stadium is the amount of money it costs them to use the Linc, which is a heavily-publicly-subsidized facility, which increased the value of the Eagles tremendously and to allow Temple to use that at an affordable price or no cost is something we need to have a discussion about."

Kenney says if the motivation is to have a venue that is more than a football stadium, then Temple needs to be transparent with the community about it and consider their feedback. Temple declined comment, saying the Trustees need to talk directly to Kenney and don't want to negotiate with the Eagles through the media.
