PA Manufacturer's Association Explains Trump Boycott

PHILADELPHIA  (CBS) -- David Taylor, President of the Pennsylvania Manufacturer's Association, explained why his organization is boycotting the Pennsylvania Society's gala, a fundraiser hosted by the Pennsylvania Republican Party, in New York after Donald Trump was asked to provide the keynote address.

Taylor told Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that Trump is not a serious candidate and not even a Republican.

"His record over the years has been all over the place. There's no good reason why anybody would ever cut a check to Hillary Clinton. There's not good reason why anybody who calls himself a conservative would ever cut a check to Rahm Emmanuel in Chicago. This is a very unfortunate set of circumstances for the Republican primary because there are a lot of good candidates out there and the fact that we're wasting time right now talking Trump, who has moved between parties and is just a fundamentally unserious person."

He insisted that Trump would have no chance of winning the Presidency if he somehow managed to win the party's nomination.

"The rhetoric, the imprecision, all of these things, after the primary is over, the adversarial media, the legacy media is going to scrutinize every last syllable that the Republican nominee says. We cannot have a presidential campaign where we are spending the entire time trying to clean up after Donald Trump's mess."

Taylor, while stating his organization feels Trump is irresponsible, said the media is making more of their boycott than necessary.

"Mr. Anton, who is my Chairman of the Board, a long time Republican leader in Pennsylvania, but he's a lifelong Philadelphian, he was asked by another Philadelphia radio journalist what he thought and his opinion is that Donald Trump is not a responsible leader for the Republican Party and that he chooses not attend the lunch. Just for perspective here, we didn't go out to the media. The media came to us. We did not make a big splash. We didn't ask Chairman Gleason to dis-invite him. We didn't even ask for our money back."
