Holy Family Men's Hoops Stuns #2 Southern Connecticut

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Holy Family University men's basketball team turned an awful lot of heads with their performance last night at the Campus Center.

The Tigers dismantled the #2 team in the nation in Division II, Southern Connecticut State University, 90-70.

"Last night was a huge win, not only for our guys, but for our league (the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference)," Holy Family head coach R.C. Kehoe tells KYW Newsradio. "Obviously, we hope it gains a little bit of respect in the region where we've kind of lacked it the last couple years, even though we've won 21 and 22 games."

Listen to the entire interview with Holy Family head coach R.C. Kehoe:

This wasn't the first win this season for the Tigers over a team out of the powerful Northeast-10 Conference. Last month, they won on the road at Bentley University, 82-75. So the now 7-2 Tigers are building a very impressive resume with an eye towards postseason play.

"They've stuck together," Kehoe says of his team."When you have nine seniors and you have guys that play 20 minutes one night, seven minutes the next night, 30 minutes then 18 minutes, you'll have defections. You'll have transfers in all of college athletics, no matter the sport. But to have nine seniors in one class, and for all of them to be committed to the same goal, it's really helped to make our job as coaches a little bit easier because they have taken responsibility and they've been accountable for making a program better, not only on the court, but off the court."

Senior guard Isaiah Gans leads the team in scoring at 15.6 ppg. He also pulls down 9 rebounds a contest. Senior swingman Marvin Crawford is second on the team in scoring at 15 points a game and he scored a game high 22 in the win over Southern Connecticut.

The Tigers returns to action on Thursday when they host Philadelphia University.
