Eagles Are Heavy Favorites To Win NFC East
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Thank you, NFC East.
Following their shocking upset in New England against the Patriots --- coupled with the Dallas Cowboys' win over the Washington Redskins on Monday night --- the Philadelphia Eagles are the current favorites to win the NFC East at 5-7.
According to FiveThirtyEight.com's Elo rating system, the Eagles have a 43-percent chance to win the division. That's 15-percentage points higher than the 5-7 New York Giants, who have the second-best chance to win the division at 28-percent, according to the model. The 5-7 Redskins have a 19-percent chance and the 4-8 Cowboys have just a 10-percent chance.
The Eagles, who are projected by the model to finish as 7-9 NFC East champs, are tied with the Redskins at 2-2 for the best divisional record among the four teams. The Eagles still play the Redskins at home in Week 16 and at the Giants in Week 17.
More than likely, the NFC East champion will be the No. 4 seed in the NFC and host a playoff game on either January 9th or 10th. The most probable opponents include the Seattle Seahawks, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Green Bay Packers.
