Former Cape May County Health Inspector Among The Victims Of San Bernardino Shooting

LINWOOD, Pa. (CBS) --  The family of 52-year-old Nick Thalasinos say they are in shock and disbelief.

They only found out this morning that he was one of the victims.

They said they watched the entire shooting unfold on live television yesterday with no idea, just how close it would hit home.

Tonight, two sons are grieving the loss of their father.

The 52-year-old worked for the Health Department in San Bernardino County.

Thalasinos has a local connection- he once worked as a health inspector for Cape May County.

His ex-wife and 24-year-old son live in Linwood, Delaware County.

The couple's 26-year-old son lives in New Jersey.

Thalasinos has been estranged from them for a number of years, until recently, he had just reconnected with his older son.

In 2001, Nick moved to the LA area to take a job as a county health inspector, but it wasn't until this morning his ex-wife and two boys learned that he was one of yesterday's 14 victims.

"People don't realize when you go to bed at night that your world can be changed when you wake up the next day. I haven't talk to Nick in years, but we shared two beautiful boys together and there is a part of me who will always love him," Nick's ex-wife, Annette Thalasinos, told Eyewitness News.

The family has asked for their privacy tonight as well as time to grieve.

They also want to respect wishes of Nick's family over on the west coast.

He was remarried and leaves behind a wife there.
