Airport, Train Stations Packed With Travelers And Security For Thanksgiving Rush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On a typical Wednesday, Amtrak has about 83,000 passengers on the rails systemwide. But the day before Thanksgiving is not a typical Wednesday with nearly double the volume and beefed up security in the wake of recent events.
Getting around safely is a concern for many trying to get to their Thanksgiving destination.
"I have to pass through New York City, so it is a concern and I see the heightened security around here this morning."
A very visible Amtrak police presence and more K-9 Units on the job.
But those concerns, in the wake of the attacks in Paris and other parts of the globe aren't stopping these travelers.
"Something I do every year. We always get together."
Phyllis, heading to Virginia, says she will cherish these next few days.
"For this holiday you want to be home with family, especially with all the things going on in the world today. I'm in Philly but my heart is in Virginia."
It's the same story at Philadelphia International Airport.
The airport is buzzing with holiday travelers, many of whom are being extra vigilant and watching for unusual activity with a worldwide travel alert in effect.
Darcela Murrell of Folcroft is flying to Houston, and she's concerned.
"Oh, because of terrorists. I'm just frightened. I just need to keep my eyes open."
A visible show of security is something travelers say, they're thankful for.
