Philadelphia's Newest Attraction Offers A Panoramic View Of The City And Beyond

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Fifty-seven floors above 16th and Market Streets is Center City's tallest -- and newest -- attraction: a panoramic view of Philadelphia and beyond. It's set to open on Saturday.

Step off the elevator, 883 feet from ground level.

"Oh my goodness," said one man.

And scrape your jaw off the floor.

"It is a powerful moment. It really is," said General Manager Evan Evans.

There's Wilmington. There's Trenton.

"We can see the cooling towers at Limerick. That's 37 miles as the crow flies."

It's this birds-eye view that General Manager Evan Evans says the One Liberty Observation Deck provides day and night.

"Sunset is one of those magnificent hours up here, because you get to watch the sun disappear beyond the horizon, and at night the city is really, really pretty. When you're at pedestrian scale, you can't understand how beautiful the lights are, and you can start to appreciate the architecture, how the city was drawn out, what the Parkway looks like at night. It's really special," said Evans.

Rounding out the experience inside One Liberty Place: interactive touchscreens that 'fly' you to city landmarks; a gift shop; and a big bespectacled bust of Ben Franklin.

The deck is open 365 days a year from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. Tickets start at $14 for kids 11 and under and $19 for adults.
