Camden County Prosecutor Investigating Fatal Shooting Involving Two Police Officers

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Authorities say two Camden County Police officers were involved in a shooting that has left a suspect dead.

The officers were responding to a 911 call for domestic dispute on the 3200 block of Rutledge Walk at around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The caller told the dispatcher a male who was involved in the incident was possibly armed.

When the officers arrived on scene, officials say gunfire was exchanged between them and the suspect.

The suspect, an adult in his 20s, was rushed to Cooper University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

His identity has not been released as authorities are working to indicate next-of-kin.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says the officers involved were placed on administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing.

State law requires the Prosecutor's Office conduct an investigation whenever a municipal police officer is involved in a shooting.
