Wolf: Tentative Budget Deal In 'Deep Peril'

HARRISBURG, Pa., (CBS) -- Governor Tom Wolf told a Pennsylvania Press Club luncheon that the tentative budget deal announced two weeks ago with legislative leaders is in "deep peril."

When the governor and legislative leaders agreed to the framework of a budget deal, Wolf said he hoped it would be passed by Thanksgiving. But the governor says the process of finalizing the budget has stalled since that framework was announced earlier this month.

"Since then we have been working with these same Republican leaders to work out the details of this framework. Unfortunately, that work looks like it's in peril – deep peril."

The governor chided House Republican leaders for passing last week a liquor privatization bill similar to the one he vetoed earlier this year and questioned Senate Republican leaders for their effort to have a vote on a bill that would eliminate school property taxes, a bill Wolf says he opposes and is not a part of the budget agreement. The governor calls those moves "distractions."
