Museum Of American Jewish History Celebrates Five Years In Old City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  The National Museum of American Jewish History last night held its annual "Only in America Gala," celebrating the strides it's made since moving to its new location in Old City.

The National Museum of American Jewish History has been around since 1976, but in 2010 it got a new home.

"This year is so important, because it's the fifth anniversary of the arrival of the museum on Independence mall," Elijah Dornstreich with The National Museum of American Jewish History told KYW Newsradio.
Dornstreich says the museum tells the American story and he thinks that resonates with visitors coming to the country's birthplace.

"If it wasn't for this country, the Jewish people never would have had the opportunity to flourish in the way that we have, so this is a tribute to that and it tells that story," Dornstreich says.

The Museum has a variety of permanent and traveling exhibitions all with the focus of education of the Jewish American story.
