Study: Coffee Drinking Linked To Longer Life

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – That morning cup of joe may help you live longer, according to a new study from a group of Harvard researchers.

The study was published in the American Heart Association journal Circulation.

It shows that regular coffee drinkers have a lower risk of early death.

"Maybe I should drink more... I don't know."

"It's good, but I only drink one cup of coffee a day so do I have a chance?"

A cup is just fine. The researchers say one to three cups is linked to a 5 to 9 percent lower risk of dying.

The greatest benefit is among non-smokers who drink 3 to 5 cups a day. That's linked to a lower death rate at up to 15 percent.

But such studies, many take with a grain of salt.

"I've heard things contrary to that and I've heard things that basically are in support of."

The researchers in this case though say this is a long range study of about 250,000 people over 30 years.
