Local Siblings Create New Music Discovery Platform In Their Dorms

By Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - From their dorm rooms at Penn and Brown to Silicon Valley, three siblings from the Main Line have created a new music discovery platform for independent artists.

Andrew Antar and his two brothers hope to disrupt the music industry with their new social discovery platform.

"Hearo.fm is a global music market place, an open platform for independent artists to showcase and sell their music directly to their fans," he explains.

There'a no subscription fee and you can listen to whole albums online for free.

"I'd say we compare more to Soundcloud or Band Camp," Antar says, "but we build upon those with superior music listen experience and a seamless, built in payment system as well as hi-fi downloads."

If you'd like to download a song or album, you pay the artist directly through the site. Of the artist self- determined price, the musicians keep 90% and Hearo.fm keeps 10%.

"For fans, Hearo.fm is a great discovery network to find all the best new music all around the world," Antar says, "and everything is allegorically sorted based on how popular it is within given time periods so you can always discover something new anywhere in the world and we make the design super simple and easy to consume for anyone."

Hearo.fm recently surpassed 400,000 page views.

The company was originally based in Silicon Valley, then moved to Austin, Texas, but is now based in Northeast Philadelphia.
