Delaware's Child Predator Task Force Ran Secret Service Sexting Sting

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) --   It's known as the child predator task force meant to capture those preying on kids for sex.
And today, its commander says it caught a secret service agent doing just that…

He was supposed to be protecting the White House but according to court paperwork, 37-year-old Lee Robert Moore… a U.S. Secret Service agent was trying to have sex with who he thought was a 14 year old delaware girl.

"I wish that i could say it surprised us, but based on what we've seen, individuals who have sexual interests in kids don't fit one mold," Abigail Layton tells Eyewitness News.

Layton is the head of Delaware's Child Predator Task Force which ran the undercover sting that busted Moore.

"It's a group set up just to combat technologically-facilitated crimes against kids. That's a nice way of saying child pornography and online enticement cases," she says.

According to the federal criminal complaint, enticing a young girl for sex is exactly what Moore is accused of doing.
Beginning in August, court paperwork says the 37-year-old father of two sent dozens of explicit messages- even some nude pictures- to an undercover Delaware State police officer posing as a 14-year-old girl.

Moore's goal, according to messages, "find somewhere where no one is" to have sex.

"They have all sorts of different jobs. All sorts of economic backgrounds," Layton says.

And in this case, the Secret Service officer may even have been messaging on the job…
On October 5, court paperwork shows he told the undercover officer quote… "work sucks today," and asked her to send him something "exciting."

Moore waived his arraignment in Dover, Delaware Friday.
His attorney is not speaking.

Meanwhile… Layton has this to say to others who may be trying to prey on children: "These task forces are set up across the country and we're working together and we're doing every single thing we can to get to them before they can get to another kid."
Moore is charged with Attempted Transfer of Obscene Material to a Minor.
A spokesperson for the Delaware Department of Justice says he'll be taken into federal custody sometime next week.
