Dick Vermeil On Being Inducted Into Philly Sports HOF: 'Back On A Team With Eagles'

By Natalie Egenolf

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Some of the most well known names in Philadelphia sports history flocked to the Sheraton Society Hill for the Philadelphia Sports Hall of fame 14th annual induction ceremony on Thursday night. Among the inductees in this year's class include former Phillies center fielder Garry Maddox, former Flyers center Rick MacLeish, the voice of the Flyers Lou Nolan, and former Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil.

"It's nice that there are 30 other members of the Philadelphia Eagles already in the Hall, so it puts me back on a team with the Eagles," Vermeil told CBSPhilly.com.

Speaking on this year's Eagles team, Vermeil said he predicts it could take three to four years for Chip Kelly to get to the big game.

"You've got to have good talent to win it all, they just don't have that talent yet," Vermeil admitted. "[Chip Kelly is] doing it his own style. Last year was the first year he's had total control. Sometimes you can win too fast, and then you don't get the good picks."

Despite the team's 4-4 start in Kelly's third season as head coach, Vermeil said he has absolute confidence that Kelly can to turn this team into a Super Bowl contender. It just may require some patience from the fan base.

To the many that are unaware, the Philadelphia Sports Hall of fame has been around since 2002. The nonprofit organization has a mission of preserving and promoting the rich history of Philadelphia sports. While there is no current physical location (yet), the Hall of Fame does have a preview gallery with constant and rotating displays on location at Spike's Trophies on Grant Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia, which is open to the public every Saturday. Appointments are also available for other days during the week to view the donated memorabilia. For more information, check out the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame website www.phillyhall.org.
