By Jim Melwert

VALLEY FORGE, Pa., (CBS) --  A Veteran's Day commemoration was held on the grounds where the Continental Army was born.

The ceremony at Valley Forge National Historical Park included new recruits taking the oath of enlistment, in a pretty special place says a park ranger.

"Underneath the National Memorial Arch which is in memoriam of the actual formation of the Continental Army."

Among the speakers at the ceremony, veteran and author Kevin Ferris, reminding us of the sacrifices made by servicemen and women for our country.

"We must do better by our men and women who have borne the battle. We must rededicate ourselves to veterans and caregivers and military families, to connecting the thousands of good people who can and want to help with those who need it."

Also, a musical medley of each branch of the Armed Services, with veterans in the crowds standing to applause as their song or hymn was played.
