Police In New Jersey Investigating Online Threats Made To High School

WOOLWICH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) --  Police in Woolwich Township are investigating online threats that were made to Kingsway High School earlier Wednesday.

School Superintendant James Lavendar posted a notice for students and parents on the school district's Facebook page.

He said the threat was posted on a social media forum.  It said, "Good Morning Kingsway Regional High School tenth grade seems fun but not for long. Things are about to take a twisted turn of events now that I'm here."  A few hours later, Lavendar said another message was posted in response to the initial threat that stated, "…someone's threatening to shoot up the school."

Lavendar said the school immediately notified police when the threat was discovered and that until the investigation is resolved, there will be increased police presence at both the high school and the middle school.

Here is what Lavendar posted for students and parents on the school district website:

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we worked closely with the Woolwich Twp. Police Department throughout this investigation. At this time we have identified the sources of the posts and are confident that this matter has been resolved. The individuals responsible for these insensitive and threatening posts will be held accountable. We will continue to work with all of our students regarding the seriousness and potential danger associated with irresponsible social media use.
Please know that we will continue to take threats seriously and always work to ensure the safety and security of our students and staff. We appreciate those who reached out to us with information to assist us in this investigation. Despite our confidence that this issue has been resolved, we will continue with additional police presence this week.

Very Truly Yours, Dr. James J. Lavender, Superintendent of Schools
