Bound, Burned Body Found In Massachusetts ID'd As NJ Woman

By Steve Patterson, Justin Udo

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (CBS) - A body bound, burned and left on train tracks in Bridgewater, Massachusetts Tuesday has been identified as a woman from New Jersey.

Authorities in Massachusetts say 29-year-old Ashley Bortner of Paulsboro was the victim found burned on those tracks just a few miles outside Boston.

" She was bound, her hands were tied behind her back and her hands were in some fashion tied toward her feet from behind," explains Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz.

Police say a neighbor called 9-1-1 late Tuesday to report a suspicious SUV on the dead end street. Police arrived to find Bortner's body engulfed in flames.

Cruz says it appears Bortner was killed somewhere else and her body was brought to the tracks:

"All of our investigative resources are devoted to determining who the perpetrator or perpetrators of this crime are."

Bortner has lived in Massachusetts for the last few years.

Her family is trying to raise money to have her body brought back to New Jersey for a funeral and burial. Donations reached nearly $1,000 in just two days.

Detectives are investigating.
