Family Of Woman Gunned Down In Nicetown Still Looking For Answers 1 Year Later

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Sunday marks the one year anniversary of the brutal murder of Kareema Marable. The 22-year-old was gunned down in Nicetown -- one of the 248 homicide victims in 2014.

Her family is holding a vigil, hoping it sparks renewed interest in the case.

A single mother, Diana Marable loves each and every one of her six children.

"I got two sets of twins and two daughters that's not twins," she says proudly.

So when her daughter Kareema, who was diagnosed with diabetes at age 10, was shot in the head on November 8th last year, she couldn't breathe. And hasn't been able to catch her breath since.

"I miss her, I miss her so bad," she says. "I cry every day...I want my baby back."

Police found her body around 11:30 p.m.

She says Kareema leaves behind a devastated three-year-old son Daniel and a heartbroken twin brother Kareem, as well as many others who loved her dearly:

"I think about it every day I ride by where it happened," says Sadia Damu, Kareema's older sister. "She didn't bother no one at all."

She says drives by the murder site at 16th and Rowan regularly to be closer to her sister, who she says was quiet and loved fashion. The family will return Sunday afternoon to remember and raise awareness. Damu says the family is desperate to find the gunman who killed their beloved sister:

"It just hurts, not knowing and not getting any justice for this. It makes me angry."

And it disrupts their peace.

"Just looking at all the guys around there...I don't know what to think," she adds.

The family is hoping their presence at the place where Kareema Marable drew her last breath will trigger a memory or softens a heart enough to report clues to police.

"She was beautiful," says Marable.
