Mayor-Elect Jim Kenney Offers Broad Hint Of Who Next Police Commissioner Will Be

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Mayor-elect Jim Kenney got right to work the morning after his election, inviting public input during the transition process and promising his "all the large office leaders" would be assembled by Thanksgiving.

He gave one very clear hint about someone who will be a major player in his administration.

Kenney chose Jackson Elementary School for his first event as mayor-elect, a sign of the importance he places on public education. He repeated his commitment to universal pre-K, hoping, in fact, to have funding for it by next September.

"We have to go through our budget process and figure out within the budget what we're able to put up, and look for matching money throughout the region."

Kenney is working fast on many fronts. He says he'll announce his transition team Thursday and "all the large office leaders" within three weeks. He broadly hinted he's already settled on Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross to lead the police department

"We're not looking outside the department. Commissioner Ramsey has made his recommendation clear. Deputy Commissioner Bethel has decide to move on and he was and would have been in consideration so, connect the dots."

Kenney also requested public help in the transition, through planned town hall meetings and a website: KenneyforPhiladelphia.com
