Delaware Will Try To Find The Offense Saturday Vs. Albany

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Delaware Blue Hens will look to get back on the winning track and get their offense going once again as they welcome the Great Danes of Albany to Delaware Stadium on Saturday for Homecoming.

Delaware fell to 3-5 this past weekend (2-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association) with a 19-0 road loss to Towson. Delaware finished with just six first downs and 102 yards of offense in defeat. In their last four games, the Blue Hens have been shutout twice, but in the other two games during that stretch they have scored 55 total points in impressive wins over William and Mary and New Hampshire.

"Just really frustrating that we haven't been able to play like we're capable of playing, consistently,  week to week," Delaware head coach Dave Brock tells KYW Newsradio."We've played a couple of really good games, beaten a couple of really good teams and to play like we played (against Towson) offensively was really frustrating. Especially up front and in the run game, where we've really done a good job all year. Defensively, we battled like crazy. For us to be successful, we have to play great complimentary football and get off the field on third down on defense, stay on the field on third down on offense. We didn't do either of those and that led to having very, very few plays and few opportunities and we didn't do much with any of that."

Now the Blue Hens focus their attention on an Albany team that brings a 2-6 record to Newark. The Great Danes have lost four straight. The first three in that stretch saw them get outscored 113-7, but last week they put a real scare into a Richmond team now ranked as high as #5 in the nation in FCS.  Albany trailed 38-10 about halfway through the third quarter before they scored three unanswered touchdowns, eventually losing to the Spiders, 38-31.

"Just a great amount of respect for how they played," Brock says. "They've had their struggles, certainly, like we have, but they go down to Richmond and down 38-10, 2-5, on the road, but they came storming back in the second half and just played lights out."

Brock breaks down the Great Danes.

"They're playing a true freshman quarterback (Neven Sussman), so we've got a really small sample size on what he does well, or how they may try to use him," Brock says. "They're playing a running back who's a really good player, a freshman (Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks). They've got a very young team and a lot of young guys playing. Defensively, they really tightened up. They got a bunch of turnovers in the second half (against Richmond) and played like crazy. So we would anticipate we'll get their absolute best shot."

Ibitokun-Hanks had a huge game against Richmond, rushing for 202 yards on 25 carries.

These teams played last season in Albany, the Blue Hens grabbing a 31-28 victory.

Saturday's game in Newark will kickoff at noon.
