Pa. Supreme Court: No Immediate Action On Eakin Emails

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Supreme Court says for now, it will not take action against colleague Michael Eakin as the state Judicial Conduct Board investigates Eakin's controversial emails.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court hired a Pittsburgh law firm to review the private emails of Justice Michael Eakin that were furnished to the state Judicial Conduct Board by Attorney General Kathleen Kane. After completing its review of the Eakin emails, the Special Counsel has recommended against immediate action by the Supreme Court, concluding that "the matter does not present the sort of extraordinary circumstances that would warrant the Court's intervention."

In a statement, the Supreme Court says it has decided to abide by the recommendation. But Justice Debra Todd says in a statement that she's offended and disappointed by the emails, that a thorough investigation by the Judicial Conduct Board is warranted, and that an expedited investigation is essential.
