Phila. DA Reminds Voters Election Fraud Task Force Available To Address Election Day Concerns

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia District Attorney joined voter watchdog Committee of Seventy to remind voters that the Election Fraud Task Force will be on hand Tuesday to address Election Day concerns.

With low turn out expected for Tuesday's general election, District Attorney Seth Williams says he isn't expecting many calls to the Election Fraud Task Force hotline. But, he says 60 Assistant DAs and dozens of detectives will be on hand just in case, to respond to any allegations of illegal voting, illegal electioneering, intimidation and other fraud issues.

"It's our job to ensure that every Philadelphian that wants to vote, can vote," he says, "we want people to know we want them to vote and we are here to protect their right to vote."

During the May primary Williams' team received less than 100 complaints, with most focused on voter process. He says primaries are the time when they receive the most complaints because of Ward disputes and they are expecting even fewer for this election.

"We want folks to be confident in the process," David Thornburg who runs Committee of Seventy. He says the group is fielding calls on its hotline 1-855-SEVENTY, distributing voter rights cards at the polls and taking surveys on how to improve the process. They are also working to get more people out to the polls.

Both had the following message: "Vote, vote, vote Philadelphia."
