New Health Site Matches Patients With Doctors Using Insurance Database

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- From billions of insurance records comes the one doctor for you: that's the idea behind a new website that helps you search for a specialist and schedule services. Amino.com begins the free process by asking the condition or procedure for which you want to see a physician.

"You can type your age, your sex, where you live or where you work and get a personalized, data-driven, ad-free set of recommendations," says Amino CEO David Vivero.

They're culled from anonymized insurance claims made by 180 million people. Vivero says the doctors' ratings are based on their experience treating someone like you.

"We all get sick, and our approach is to help people make those decisions using data without having to ask a friend or family," he says.

You'll get more information on certain procedures, like same-day biopsy rates for abnormal mammograms. Amino shows you which physicians are in your network, and helps you make an appointment.
