Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Autumn Slopeside
By Jay Lloyd
SCHWENKSVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- Ski resorts aren't just for skiers and snowboarders anymore. You'll find autumn action and more.
What a weekend to be in the mountains. The fall colors are in full roar and there is activity galore. At nearby Spring Mountain, there's scary stuff for kids of all ages, but the scariest may be the ghoul punctuated chairlift ride in the nighttime sky and then the walk down a haunted ski trail to a welcome brew at the base.
At Blue Mountain, this weekend ushers in the Monsterball Bash. A bit of spine-tingling hi-jinx coupled with music, food and a peek at what may be ahead this winter. But mountain operator Barbara Green says it's all part of a wider trend to year round activity.
"With festivals and ropes courses," she says, "and 365 restaurants."
To cap the transition to winter, next month, Shawnee Mountain will offer up its Art of the Mountain weekend. Pocono and regional artists who found mountain havens will have their work on display November 14 and 15.
