Phillies Hire Two Major League Coaches

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies have added veteran baseball coaches Rick Kranitz and John McLaren to the major league staff, the team announced on Wednesday.

Kranitz will serve as the bullpen coach, McLaren the catching coach.

Kranitz was a pitching coach for the Milwaukee Brewers for the last five seasons. Prior to that, he was a pitching coach for the Baltimore Orioles and Florida Marlins. In 2006 with the Marlins, Kranitz, was named Major League Coach of the Year by Baseball America as four of their rookie starters recorded 10 wins, the first time that has happened in Major League history.

McLaren is a former catcher who was with the Oakland A's as a pro scout since 2012. He's spent time coaching with six MLB teams over the past 23 years. McLaren also managed 159 major league games for the Seattle Marines in 2007-08 and the Washington Nationals in 2011.

Phillies hitting coach Steve Henderson and pitching coach Bob McClure have also agreed to contracts for the 2016 season.
