Mural Arts Celebrates Latest Exhibition, 'Open Source'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Mural Arts is celebrating its latest exhibition titled "Open Source" all during the month of October.

The "Open Source" exhibition includes work from 14 artists on public spaces at locations throughout the city.

"All the artwork is done with a social purpose around an important social issue that Philadelphia is grappling with," Mural Arts executive director Jane Golden said.

Golden adds that projects focus on issues like immigration, education, public safety and more and includes murals, sculptures, portraits, walk-through installations and more. Artist Shepard Fairey installed his series of murals in Center City titled "The Stamp of Incarceration." Inmates from Graterford Prison helped paint the panels.

"Art is a great tool to not only prevent people from going into the system, but to reduce their recidivism once they go into the system," Shepard said.

The list of events throughout October include block parties and tours.
