8 Low Income Homeowners Get Free Home Renovations
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Volunteers are rolling up their sleeves to help fix up homes in North Philadelphia.
Eights homes in the 20 and 21 hundred block of North Franklin Street are being renovated.
Stefanie Seldin, executive director of Rebuilding Together Philadelphia says homeowners are getting free weatherization and repairs done.
"Rebuilding Together Philadelphia takes a unique "block build" approach. We mobilize about 100-300 volunteers to work on clustered homes in a targeted neighborhood over several days."
Seldin says homeowners are forced to sell when they can't keep up with their homes. This work, allows elderly residents to stay put while strengthening the neighborhood.
"When we brought the homeowners together for an orientation, the folks ont he 2100 block of North Franklin didn't know the folks on the 2000 block of n. Franklin so now they know each other! I think there's alittle more community, I think they'll look out for each other!"
