Another Winning Month For AC Casino Industry

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., (CBS) -- September was a very good month for Atlantic City's eight casinos.
The gaming halls took in $230 million, 10.8 percent more than they did in September of last year, according to figures released Thursday by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
"We had some luck this year, not just with the games but also with the calendar," Casino Control Commission Chairman Matt Levinson told KYW Newsradio."It was one of those months when we had an extra holiday in there and we had an air show and it was a very good month for us."
Only one facility, Trump Taj Mahal, reported a revenue shortfall of about 4.6 percent. The rest were up, with Resorts reporting the largest gain at 31.8 percent.
Perhaps even more important is the fact that revenue reports no longer need to include the performance of four casinos closed last year. Going forward, Levinson believes there'll be a more accurate assessment of how the smaller gaming industry is doing, which will be encouraging in helping to diversify the local economy.
