Police: 1 Dead, 2 Injured In South Philly Shooting

By Jan Carabeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police say one person is dead and another person has been taken to the hospital following a shooting in South Philadelphia.

Police say it happened Wednesday night around 9:30 p.m. at the 500 block of Ritner Street.

According to police, a 19 year-old man was shot in head and he was pronounced dead at scene.

Authorities say he was holding a gun in his right hand when he was found on the street.

Police say 46 shell casings were found at the scene and four cars were struck by bullets.

Authorities say a  36 year-old man was taken to Jefferson Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. He is in stable condition.

A 25 year-old man arrived at Methodist Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm and police are investigating to see if he was involved with the shooting.

This is the second night in a row that gunfire erupted in a South Philadelphia neighborhood. On Tuesday night police say they found close to 50 spent shell casings half a block away.

"Due to the fact that this shooting was just a half a block a way, just one day later, and once again many, many shots were fired, there's a good possibility that these two incidents are related," says Chief Inspector Scott Small. "So Homicides Detectives and South Detectives are aware of both of the incidents, they're communicating with one another and we're going to try to come up with a motive and find out who's responsible."

Police have not yet identified the man who was killed or described any suspects.

Witnesses tell police a man was seen leaving the scene on a bicycle.

Police are still investigating.
