Suburban Philadelphia Church To Close In November

FALSINGTON, Pa. (AP) — Catholic officials say a suburban Philadelphia church that needs more than $1 million in repairs will be closed in November.

The archdiocese of Philadelphia announced Sunday that Saint Joseph the Worker Church in Fallsington will no longer serve as a worship site of Saint Francis Cabrini Parish "and will close as a Roman Catholic Church."

Officials said Saint Joseph the Worker Church needs repairs to the roof and heating system, which it share with an attached school that is not in use. They also said the annual cost of maintaining the combined buildings is about $121,000, and the parish had a deficit of about $240,000 last year.

In addition, officials said, there have been fewer than 10 requests to use the church building for liturgical purposes in the past year.
