Knee Jerk Reactions: Eagles Fall To 1-3 With Loss To Redskins
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Knife to heart kind of loss.
• The Eagles are just not good enough right now.
• Could have, maybe should have, won the game. But they didn't and they're 1-3.
• Full-out panic mode in Philadelphia.
• Nolan Carroll holding call late was atrocious and game changing.
• The Eagles defense couldn't get a pass rush all day. They dominated against the run, per usual, but made Kirk Cousins look like Tom Brady.
• 0 sacks
• Brandon Graham had one, a safety yet, but decided he didn't want it.
• Pierre Garcon made some ridiculous catches late, including that game-winning TD.
• Eric Rowe did not have a great game.
• Offensive line just couldn't pass protect, evident by those embarrassing final two plays.
• Darren Sproles' third down drop. Ugh. Throw was slightly behind him, but he has to make that catch.
• CALEB STURGIS. He gone. Two missed 33-yarders, an extra-point and field goal. Four points. Killer.
• Crossing routes killed the Eagles on D, all day.
• Sam Bradford was shaky early, then they started taking shots down the field and something happened.
• Riley Cooper and Miles Austin with long touchdowns, who woulda thunk it.
• Zach Ertz just doesn't show up. He's not the guy we thought, I guess.
• Although, he did have a really nice TD grab that was nullified by a Nelson Agholor illegal formation penalty.
• Speaking of Agholor, he had an interesting day. Really nice one-handed snag early, but two bone-headed plays, including the illegal formation and a dropped fumble on a reverse.
• Run game never got going again. Same old story with these team. Inconsistent on offense, solid on defense---but not good enough when you needed it most and no pressure on the QB---and missing key plays in crucial moments, costing them another win.
• Three losses by a combined 15 points. That's the NFL. Margin of error is too small.
• A lot of injuries too. Seems like Jason Peters gets hurt every game.
• On the positive note, if I must, Bennie Logan and Fletcher Cox are monsters against the run.
• Malcolm Jenkins continues to be the team's best overall player, he just doesn't make mistakes.
• Bradford looked good at times. He threw the ball down field well and actually looked semi-mobile, especially that TD throw to Brent Celek. Nevertheless, the offense isn't running as smoothly as it should.
• It's only four-games, but man, it's ugly right now. The sky is falling in Philadelphia. Just be thankful you don't have to spend your days at WIP.
