Injury Updates: Kendricks, Alonso, Thorton

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles are 0-2 in desperate need of a win on Sunday at the Jets, and will be without at least two of their top defensive players, maybe three.

First, the run-plugging defensive lineman Cedric Thorton will be out a "week or two" with a broken hand, Eagles defensive coordinator Billy Davis announced on Tuesday.

Second, inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who suffered a hamstring injury, is day-to-day giving him an "outside chance" to play Sunday. Kendricks says he hopes to play.

Lastly, Davis said inside linebacker Kiko Alonso is still being evaluated, but is not expected to play this week.

Alonso reportedly suffered a left ACL sprain, the same knee he injured last year. While 94WIP's Howard Eskin reports Alonso could miss just two to four weeks, FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo says Alonso could miss the remainder of the season.

On Tuesday, the Eagles signed insider linebacker Najee Goode and released Julian Vandervelde.

They will rely on contributions from rookie Jordan Hicks, second-year outside linebacker Marcus Smith, and veteran Brad Jones at linebacker on Sunday vs. the Jets. Taylor Hart and Brandon Bair will rotate in on the defensive line for Thorton.
