Knee Jerk Reactions: Eagles Lose Disaster Bowl

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Zero fun sir.

Truly, one of the ugliest games of football I have ever seen. Devastating injuries to key players, countless flags, and barely any offense.

1st Half

  • 15-yard of offense, one first-down---which came on a suspect Dallas pass interference call.
  • You put a lot of pressure on the defense when you do that.
  • Jason Kelce was blown up on two run plays, something you don't see often. Run game couldn't get going.
  • Speaking of the defense, that unit had a very solid first quarter, allowing just three points on four Cowboys' possessions.
  • Connor Barwn and Cedric Thorton each recorded a sack.
  • Malcolm Jenkins made two excellent tackles.
  • DeMeco Ryans can't run, but somehow made a lucky pass breakup saving a touchdown.
  • Boo birds started coming after the Eagles' first second-quarter drive and deservedly so. Eagles had just 15 yards, 0-4 on third down in their first four possessions. Putrid.
  • Kiko Alonso left the game with a knee injury.
  • Mychal Kendricks left the game with a hamstring injury.
  • Nolan Carroll was beat three to four times.
  • Byron Maxwell had a meh first half. Beaten a couple of times, but made some plays too.

First half numbers:

  • DAL 41 plays, PHI 16
  • DAL 15 first downs, PHI 1
  • DAL 193 total yards, PHI 21
  • DAL 1-6 on third down, PHI 0-5
  • DAL 10 penalties for 66 yards, PHI six penalties for 45 yards.
  • Time of possession: DAL 23:09, PHI 6:51

2nd half:

  • Tony Romo fractured his left clavicle.
  • Eagles rookie LB Jordan Hicks: Beat on 39-yard pass to Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar, then got a sack/fumble on Tony Romo, who fractured his left clavicle on the play.
  • Enter Brandon Weeden.
  • Oh, the ensuing drive after the fumble...1st and goal from the 1: Incomplete
  • 2nd and goal from the 1: Sam Bradford intercepted by Sean Lee on a ball intended for a covered Zach Ertz.
  • Riley Cooper was wide open on that play too.
  • DeMarco Murray jumped over a guy.
  • A snap went off of Sam Bradford's shoulder pad and then he threw another interception.
  • Twitter wanted to bring in Mark Sanchez and fire Chip Kelly.
  • And then Byron Maxwell got beat on a 42-yard dagger Brandon Weeden to Terrence Williams (gross!) touchdown.

I've got nothing. Speechless. I've been Chip Kelly's biggest supporter and things do not look good. It's only two games and the season is far from over, but for those of us on the Chip Ship---ice berg...right ahead.

Andrew Porter will be on SportsRadio 94WIP on Friday from 2am-5:30am.
