New Hospital Planned In Gloucester County

By David Madden

WOODBURY, N.J. (CBS) -- The Inspira Health Network in South Jersey is planning to expand, with construction of a new hospital off route 55 in Harrison Township, Gloucester County.

That'll mean changes for their existing facility, the former Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury.

Hopes are to have the new facility up and running in about 3 years with greater capacity, better equipment and easier access to major South Jersey highways.

Inspira CEO John DiAngelo says they considered renovation or expansion in Woodbury.

"Just the mechanics of trying to build a tower there would have been significantly more expensive than actually building a green field site," DiAngelo told KYW Newsradio.

That's not to say they're pulling out of the Gloucester County seat. They've hired a consultant to work with city officials and plan to retain a major presence in Woodbury with an emergency room and a number of services that could employ upwards of 500 people.
