By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Talking about cancer can be complicated and confusing. It can be hard to take in all the information your doctor gives you during a visit. If you are battling cancer in any of its forms, here are some tips on how to talk with your doctor about it.

Make a list of questions before your visit and list your most important ones first. Bring a pen and paper to take notes, or ask your spouse or another family member to come. They can take notes for you. One of the most important things is that you should not be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something. Ask you doctor to explain any words or medical terms you don't know. Repeat your own questions if necessary.

Sometimes your doctor may not understand your question or concern and may not fully answer your question.
