Completing Part Of Marriage Application Online Can Reduce Wait Times In Bucks County

By Jim Melwert

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Part of the application process for a marriage license in Bucks County can now be done online.

Bucks County register of Wills and clerk of the orphans court Don Petrille says marriage applicants will still need to go into the office in Doylestown or Levittown to verify documents and identities, but the new online process could reduce the average visit from about 20-minutes, down to about five minutes.

"The other night we did 50-marriage applications. If people had filled out their applications in advance, that would greatly reduce their wait times."

Petrille says he expects the online application process will not only to save time, but in some cases it will cut down on frustration.

"Sometimes people would come into the office, they wouldn't be prepared with some of the family history on the application, such as maybe their mother's place of birth or they wouldn't know what the father's occupation was."

He reminds anyone planning to get married, there is a three-day waiting period in Pennsylvania, and that doesn't begin until the application is signed in front of one of his deputies. View the application at buckscounty.org/marriageapp.
