Downtown Liquor Outlet On The Move

By David Madden

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Redevelopment of a part of Center City will now include the relocation of a state store. Not far though.

Come spring of next year, plans are to close a state store at 12th and Chestnut and open a new, larger wine and spirits shop next to a new Target store.

A mixed use retail and residential project at 11th and Chestnut continues to take shape.

Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board spokesman Shawn Kelly says "the new location will have better parking with access to a municipal lot behind the store. There will be better access for liquor licensees to come by and pick up their deliveries."

That'll come courtesy of a loading dock in the back that will also make it easier for shop employees to take in product from warehouses. Kelly also says the new operation will provide a wider selection for customers to choose from.

Target announced plans last month to open up its 19,000 square foot store next July. Together, the two businesses are expected to take up all the street level retail space within the project, although Kelly says the specifics are still being worked out.
