Katie Fehlinger Speaks With Kate Bilo About Her Powerful Message

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As many CBS 3 Eyewitness News viewers know, meteorologist Katie Fehinger is expecting.

It's a happy occasion for Katie and her husband, but recent comments on social media have Katie firing back with what she is calling a mother's manifesto.

Katie officially began her ninth month of pregnancy Friday.

Several months ago she let everyone, including viewers, in on the happy news that she is having twin girls.

(Bilo:) "So since you first announced your pregnancy on air, you have gotten so many people that have been supporting you."

"You feel like you are sharing your experience with the viewers because you are going through that experience on the air and they are commenting and saying the nicest things," said Fehlinger.

But it hasn't all been nice.

(Bilo:) "We all know people can say some very mean things, and there were a couple of comments recently that kind of were the last straw."

"There was one particular comment that really, really hurt and that was one where a woman basically said that I look like a sausage in casing," said Fehlinger.

"Earlier this week, comes this other comment that said sticking my pregnant abdomen out like that is disgusting."

"That's ridiculous, I mean twins is a beautiful thing, twins is a beautiful thing," said one woman.

"Our bodies are made for having children and women are beautiful,' said another woman.

So why not follow the golden rule -- if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

"Cyberbullying is very much upon us," said Dr. Rachel Dore.

Dr. Dore specializes in body image issues.

"There are no rule for how somebody should look or feel when they're pregnant because really it is about the life growing inside of the body as opposed to the body's outward appearance. The only rule is to be as healthy as you can," said Dr. Dore.

And with that, Katie is answering her critics with a Facebook posting:

"...I find a bigger underlying issue here. These particular nasty-grams were directed at a pregnant woman.

So this little manifesto of sorts is dedicated to every mother out there - other pregnant moms-to-be, moms reading this while their toddlers play on the swing set, moms whose kids have long since gone off to college...

You are beautiful."

Katie is planning to be on the morning show on Monday bringing CBS 3 viewers her forecast.

But as any expectant parent knows, the baby, or babies in this case, have no idea about work schedules.

Stay tuned!
