In Court Today: Woman Charged In Fatal Hit And Run That Killed 4 Year Old Boy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today for Shanika Mason.

The 27-year-old turned herself in last month for a fatal hit-and-run of a 4-year-old boy.

Police say Latif Wilson ran into the street in Kingsessing and was struck by a car in April.

Mason faces charges of homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and related offenses.

Police say four-year-old Latif Wilson was hit in April on the 1600 block of S. 57th Street in Kingsessing.

Eyewitness News had previously spoken exclusively with the child's mother. She called him Teefy.

"My oldest son, he just says we're still a team, Teefy is just in heaven. He is my backbone and I'm very grateful that he is strong, that I don't have to because it is just crazy," said Dominique Lockwood.

Police say Wilson was outside playing when he ran into the street and was struck by a passing vehicle. According to police, the impact knocked the child to the ground, and as the vehicle allegedly started to flee the scene it struck him a second time causing fatal injuries.
