Philly Artists Make The Cut On President Obama's Summer Songs Playlist

By KYW social media editor Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - President Obama has shared his favorite summer songs on Spotify -- a popular music streaming service.

The White House released two Spotify playlists of songs, one for day and one for night, that were hand-picked by the President.

The music selections run the gamut from classic artists like Al Green and Joni Mitchell to more contemporary musicians like Beyoncé and Coldplay.

There are 20 songs on each playlist and four artists with Philly ties make an appearance.

On the daytime playlist...Penn alum John Legend's "Green Light" and Low Cut Connie's ode to South Philly, "Boozophilia."

On his nighttime collection... jazz greats Billie Holiday and John Coltrane made the cut with their tunes "The Very Thought of You" and "My Favorite Things."

The playlists are a first for the White House, which launched an official channel on Spotify last week.
